What I do: Theory and method
Keeping feminist theories in the forefront of our minds, feminist practitioners generally synthesize a variety of theories and methods into our approaches as well. In this way, the practice of feminist coaching is not qualitatively different than other forms of Diving-Deep & Surfacing. Eclectic coaches believe that the more theoretical perspectives and methods used, the better the likelihood for understanding, healing, and change. Working from a foundation of feminist theory, I then draw from psychodynamic, family systems, psychosynthesis, transpersonal, spiritual, cognitive/behavioral, various ecological approaches, Buddhism, and mind-body paradigms in my method and approach to coaching.
Some methods I will use for our work

Example objectives in our work together

Women's psychological, spiritual, heart and soul struggles are often a result of the very real difficulty of their lives within patriarchy. Shame, self-hatred, competitiveness, detachment, dissociation, depression and repressed anger are the morass of psychological consequences of being objectified, sexualized, devalued as human beings, sexually and emotionally exploited, separated from other people, and separated from oneself. Patriarchy indubitably suffocates the spirits, bodies, hearts and minds of women. Self-acceptance for women becomes possible when we begin to eradicate the contradictions in our lives, by the processes of becoming our "real selves." |
Privacy and confidentialityThe work we do together will be private and confidential. However, if there are issues of privacy on your end - a chance your partner, spouse, roommates, parents, boss, or children might have access to your computer - you will need to take steps to ensure your privacy. In other words, if necessary for your safety, delete our correspondences or save them in a secure place.
Right off, in our work together, I require: your name, mailing address, phone number, and some details about who you are, what you do in your life, what kind of relationship(s) you are in, etc. For ongoing work with clients, I usually require a written autobiography. If writing an autobiography feels difficult to you, I am flexible about this. There is more than one way to explain one's life to another and we can do this together in another more creative format if necessary. COUPLES - I prefer to work with couples in person. However, if this is best for you, I'm happy to begin in person and then shift to Zoom. I would ask you to come to my office a couple times or so, before we transition. I will be happy to answer any questions you have about me which might seem relevant to our work together so please be sure to ask! |
